Beekeeping School FAQs
Where is the beekeeping school located in 2026?
Our beekeeping school is held at Southall Farm and Inn, located at 2200 Osage Loop Rd, Franklin, TN 37064. Classes take place inside Dottie's Speakeasy on the property.
When are classes offered?
We offer seasonal one-day classes throughout the year. Level 1 (beginner) classes are offered in March, with Level 2-4 dates released as the season progresses.
Do I need to purchase tickets from Williams Honey Farm?
No, tickets are purchased directly through Southall's website. We are not selling tickets - please use the links on our product pages to register through Southall.
What should I bring to class?
Dress comfortably and be ready to learn! Classes run from 8AM-5PM, so please arrive 30 minutes early. All necessary equipment for hands-on training will be provided. You will not be bringing personal beekeeping PPE. Just bring a notepad and pen!
Can I purchase beehives and equipment?
Yes! You can pre-order woodenware (beehive kits) through our vendor Holly Creek Bee Ranch. We recommend ordering at least 7 days before class for pickup at the school.
When do I get my bees?
Nucleus colonies of bees typically arrive in May and can be pre-purchased through Holly Creek Bee Ranch. Supplies are limited, so early ordering is recommended.
Can I take individual classes or do I need to take all levels?
Each class (Level 1-4) is a stand-alone offering, so you can pick and choose which topics you need for further instruction based on your experience level.
Do I have to stay the night at Southall Farm in order to take your classes?
No, you are not required to book a hotel room in order to take our school. You will just drive in for the day and valet park your car.
How do I receive a discounted room rate in order to stay the night at Southall?
Once you sign up for school on Southall's website, you will then call Southall to reserve your room. Simply tell them you are enrolled in the bee school and a discount room rate will be offered.
Will I be around Live Bees during your bee school?
Yes, we will be working in and around live bees during our "field trips" and you will be wearing full beekeeping PPE (suit and gloves)
Should I wear special shoes to class?
Please wear close toed shoes to school. We do not recommend wearing flip flops or sandals.
Is lunch provided during school?
Yes, lunch is provided and included in your class. Coffee/tea will also be provided throughout the day during class.
Can my spouse/partner sign up for other activities to do while I am in school?
Yes, for a fee (depending on the activity), your spouse/partner may enjoy other activities while you attend school! Please visit the Activities page on Southall's website for a list of activities available.
Are kids allowed to attend school?
You know your kids and their attention span better than we do so if you believe they can sit still for sometimes 2 hours at a time, kids 10 and older are welcome to enroll in school with you. Parents are in charge of their children at all times during school.
