Over the years we’ve been asked many times, “Hey, when are you going to harvest? When are you checking for mites? Have you added supers yet?”
Beekeepers (especially new ones) are always curious when the other guy is actually pulling the trigger on certain actions. It helps to gauge when to think about things in your own hive. It’s never an exact science but it’s always encouraging to know when you’re in the same ballpark….
Here’s your chance to follow along with our moves. Throughout the season when something significant is taking place in our region we’ll send out an SMS text message to all subscribers. Something as simple as:
“Hey, we’re harvesting honey this week”
“Hey, we’re putting extra pollen traps on our hives because the golden rod is in full bloom!”
“Hey, there’s a pretty bad storm system coming this weekend, don’t forget to strap down your hives!”
“Hey, we’re noticing a pretty significant uptick in varroa mite levels, go out and check your hives soon!”
Subscribers will get to decide if they want to do the same. Our service is always just a suggestion, as all hives are a little different, but you can think of our Tactical Beekeeping Alerts as a buddy shooting you over a text to say “Hey, don’t forget about this!”
Don’t worry, you won’t be inundated with texts every day. You can expect on average between 2-4 text messages a month. Just think of us as gentle nudge to keep you going in the right direction. If you’re a little farther North or South of Middle Tennessee simply get in touch with us and we’ll come up with a conversion factor in your timing. We want you to succeed! Let’s use technology to get us all on the same page.
